Ways to Celebrate New Year's in and around Canton MA
Canton Massachusetts' close proximity to Boston and to recreational areas gives Canton area residents many options to choose from on New Year's Eve or Day.
One of the most popular ways to ring in the New Year is to attend First Night Boston on New Year's Eve. Commuter rail trains run from the Canton Center MBTA station and the Canton Junction MBTA station so park your car, jump on the train for a quick ride to enjoy the First Night Festivities. The MBTA is free after 8 pm on New Year's Eve and they are running on an extended schedule. First Night originated in Boston about 35 years ago and is still going strong. Festivites start as early as 1:00 pm for those with little ones and run through midnight with fireworks over Boston Harbor. It is a cultural and diverse evening with performances from around 200 artists and entertainers. There are some free events such as the parade down Boylston Street at 5:30 pm, that ends on Boston Common with the family fireworks around 6:00 pm and the ice sculptures that are on display throughout the downtown. However, admission to the performances requires a First Nigh Button, which costs a mere $18.00. That's right, $18.00 will get you into all the performances and indoor displays. It is a fun and affordable evening, and easily accessible from Canton MA. Visit First Night Boston for more details about First Night. If you like the idea of First Night but don't want to head into Boston, nearby Quincy MA is also offering a New Year's Eve Family Fun Fest from 5 pm to 8 pm in Quincy Center.
The Irish Cultural Center, located on New Boston Drive, right here in Canton MA is offering dinner and dancing! There will be live music, buffet dinner and a champagne toast.
