Canton MA Schools Named Among Best in the State

Canton MA Schools Named Among Best in the State

Canton Patch is reporting that the Canton Public Schools has been named among the Top 50 School Districts in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts by Boston Magazine

The ranking is determined by test scores from elementary, middle and high schools in the State's 135 districts, per pupil spending, student to teacher ratio, number of AP classes, graduation rate, the number of students continuing on to higher education and the total number of sports teams and clubs.

Apparently each category receives its own weighting and then the totals are calculated by the Director of the Math Resource Center at Babson College.  Now, some people may have their own opinion about which categories should be weighted so, like all statistics, it is subject to some interpretation.

Our neighbors in Sharon MA are to be congratulated as well!  The Sharon Public Schools scored in the Top 10 districts in Massachusetts.  Considering that "Education Week"  has named Massachusetts Schools as some of the best in the country,  it is pretty special to be named among the best in the state.

When considering a place to live, while quality of schools is always near the top of the list, so is affordability.  The median price of homes in Canton in 2010 was $435,000.00.  Canton's tax rate for FY 2011 is $11.55 per thousand, which is generally lower than some of the other highly ranked towns.

The highly ranked schools and affordability are just a couple of reasons that make Canton MA a great place to live.  To find out more about Canton's other amenities like open space, recreational opportunities, proximity to Boston and more, contact your Canton MA Buyer Agent.
