What I Did on My Christmas Vacation in Canton

What I Did on My Christmas Vacation in Canton

What I did on my Christmas Vacation in Canton MAWhen I was a kid, the first week back at school each year meant that I would inevitably be assigned the task of writing a composition about what I did over the summer vacation.  This was meant to be an easy way to start exercising those mental muscles that had gone lax over the summer break.  Schoolchildren in the Canton area will be heading back to school next Thursday.  Give them something to write about when asked what they did on their Christmas vacation in Canton by trying on one, two or all of the events listed below:

Blue Hills Ski & Snowboard Lessons

Where: Blue Hills Ski Area Boston (4001 Washington St)
When: Dec 27, 28 & 29
Contact: (781) 828-5070

Group and private lessons are available.  Don't have equipment?  No problem.  Blue Hills offers special packages that include ski/snowboard gear.  Kids ages 4 to 6 can join in with the Polar Cubs lessons held at 10am, 12pm, 2pm & 4pm each day this weekend.  Group lessons are available for anyone aged 7 or above during the same times.  Private lessons are available by reservation only at 9am, 11am, 12pm, 1pm, 3pm and 5pm.  Group lesson are by walk-in only (no reservations accepted).

Public Ice Skating

Where: Metropolis Skating Rink (2167 Washington St/Rte 138)
When: Dec 27th (12pm to 2pm & 7:30pm to 9:15pm), Dec 29th (2:30pm to 4:30pm) & Dec 30th (12pm to 2pm)
Cost: $3 for adults, $2 for kids
Contact: (781) 575-6660

Public hockey play will not be permitted during Christmas break sessions.  The rink will be closed on New Year's Day.  Regular rink hours resume on Jan 2nd.

Blue Hills 2014 First Day Hikes (Milton, MA)

Where: Houghton's Pond Main Parking Lot (840 Hillside St)
When: Jan 1, 2014 12pm to 3pm (hikes start at 1pm)
Cost: FREE
Contact: (617) 698-1802

Start the new year off right with a walk in the gorgeous Blue Hills.  Warm up with a cup of soup (also free) to get the blood pumping.  Park rangers and staff will act as your guides throughout several different hiking paths.  You choose which path you want to tackle based on your age, ability and experience level.  Make sure you dress warmly, wear comfortable hiking shoes and carry drinking water to keep yourself hydrated during the hike.  Even shorter, easier paths require a traveler to stay hydrated.

Downton Abbey Inspired Tea

Where: Canton Public Library (786 Washington St)
When: Jan 5, 2014 2:30pm
Cost: $15 per person
Contact: Carolyn Elkort (781) 821-5027

The popular PBS program has inspired the Canton Public Library to celebrate all things Downtonian with a Downton Abbey inspired tea.  Learn more about historic New England while sipping tea.  Show off your knowledge of the show during the Downton Abbey trivia contest.  Prizes will be given away for best hat and best outfit, so make sure you wear your finest period dress.  Various other raffles and giveaways will take place throughout the afternoon.  Space is limited so reservations are required.

When your child is asked to write about what they did on their Christmas vacation in Canton, give them something interesting to write about.  You'll get to spend some time with your family in a unique, fun way.  That's a good time for everybody!  If you're interested in taking advantage of the low interest rates before they head up again, contact your Canton MA Buyer Agent today.

HI Christine, I trust you had a wonderful Christmas. Giving kids something to write about from the Christmas vacation is a great idea. I know they will gain a lot from this experience. You've selected some nice events for the children to write about too.

Happy New Year!!
