This Saturday, Sunday and Monday, the Blue Hills Trailside Museum will be hosting their pond walk along Trailside Pond at 2:30pm. Located on the border of Canton and Milton, the Blue Hills Reservation (which houses the Blue Hills Trailside Museum) offers 7000 acres of sanctuary for local rescued Canton wildlife such as snowy owls and river otters. If you make a trip out to the Blue Hills Trailside Museum this Memorial Day weekend, you can enjoy a leisurely stroll along the boardwalk, see the pond and dip for pond creatures right from the dock! All this is available with your museum entrance fee ($3 for adults, $2 for seniors aged 65+, $1.50 for kids ages 2-12 and free to Mass Audubon members). Take advantage of this special pond walk because it won't be available again until August!
On Monday, May 26th, you won't want to miss the Canton Memorial Day Parade. This has become a treasured annual tradition here in Canton. It's a chance for the community to come together and honor all of those who have served the military in the past as well as those who are serving today. The parade kicks things off at Canton High School and continues down Washington St, eventually ending up at the Canton Cemetery. Along the way, veterans groups, the American Legion and the Canton Boys and Girls Scouts leave wreaths at special stops along the parade route to honor the memory of those heroes we have lost. It is really a sight to behold.
Don't forget to take a moment of silence at 3pm on Memorial Day in observance of the official National Moment of Remembrance. Whether you silently thank your grandfather, cousin, uncle, aunt or friend who served our country or say a prayer for those soldiers who continue to serve our interests today, one minute is not much to ask for.
