Last spring, several local dance studios collaborated in the inaugural performance of Why We Dance. The benefit showcased several local dance studios, as well as the musical talents of The Wolff Sisters of Canton, and raised money to benefit the Furbush Family of Canton, who had suffered a tragic loss of both mother and father.
The performance was a huge success and all involved decided that they would like to make this an annual event. This year, Why We Dance is raising money to benefit The Jimmy Fund. The Jimmy Fund supports Boston's Dana Farber Cancer Institute by raising funds for cancer care and research to improve survival rates for cancer patients everywhere. Founded in 1948, The Jimmy Fund has raised millions of dollars.
The Jimmy Fund was chosen as this year's charitable organization in honor of Allison Cahill Burke, a former dance instructor at Canton's Hazel Boone Dance Studio, who is battling inoperable brain cancer. Burke is a role model for other cancer patients with her positive attitude and determination. She was named a Walk Hero for this year's Jimmy Fund Marathon Walk.
Dancers from the following studios will be performing at this year's Why We Dance:
Dance Out, Hazel Boone Dance Studio, Braintree Academy of Dance, Edge Studio of Dance
The Canton area has a number of talented dancers and dance studios. This one-of-a-kind performance is a great chance to see some local talent and check out what each studio has to offer, while supporting a great cause. I'm proud to say that two of my daughters will be performing with The Hazel Boone Dance Studio, as they did last year.
In addition, this year's performance has an added bonus - you might just get to see your favorite Canton MA Buyer Broker performing with the Adult Tappers from the Hazel Boone Studio! Isn't that alone worth the price of admission?
Why We Dance is Friday, November 14th at 7:30 pm at the Norwood Theater at 109 Central Street in Norwood MA. Tickets are $20.00 and may be purchased online through at TuTuTix.com/DanceOutCanton. For directions and parking information visit the Norwood Theater website.
I hope to see some of you there!
